Books By The Bay
Lewes Restaurante / Cafe
Donald Ross, who founded nearby Wilmington College and is president of Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla., bought the original store when it was located in the historic Rodney House, a charming cedar-shingled building built in 1790, but later moved around the corner to 111 Bank St.
“My wife, Helen, and I have been part-time Lewes residents for almost 15 years,” says Ross. “When we learned that longtime owner John Alwood was retiring and the book inventory would be available, we decided this would be an excellent opportunity for the future. Having been in the education field for all of our adult lives, it was a natural.”.
Now located at 111 Bank Street, Books By The Bay is a unique cafe where you can grab a good bite and a good book. Grab a newspaper or book and sit in the comfortable chairs in the reading nook or head to a table in the indoor cafe or outdoor patio area for some delicious food. The menu consists of quiches, salads, burgers, sandwiches and breakfast dishes, but do not forget the homemade pies, cakes, muffins and scones.
Good luck on this week's contest!
