213 Second St. - Lewes

Welcome to 213 Second Street! This beautiful five bedroom Victorian home and carriage house were built beginning in 1876 arid are located in the Lewes Ship Carpenter’s Square Historic District.

The House

The owners have tried to balance the elegance of the original design and construction of this home with the casual comforts one expects at the beach. Like you, they like to relax, be comfortable and enjoy beautiful things when they get to the beach. Their hopes are what they have done with the house helps to melt away your city blues when you arrive.

The chairs on the front porch provide a pleasing view of historic downtown Lewes, the first city in the first State in America, and an intimate sense of a more relaxed time in America. Stepping out the sliding doors in the kitchen, you enter the back yard that is surrounded with privacy fencing and functions much like a second living room. The yard is lushly landscaped around two seating areas and a barbeque. The ground floor living area in the carriage house opens onto the back yard through French doors that create a luxurious indoor/outdoor living room for intimate dining and entertaining on warm summer nights. The second and third floor rear bedrooms provide views of the Canal and the new Canal Park; and the fireplace in the living room warms up any chilly evenings.

Televisions with satellite service are available along with VCR and CD/DVD players. If you must work, DSL, fax machines, and printers are available in the main house and the carriage house.

The Location

The house is located immediately adjacent to the downtown shopping and restaurant district with something for everyone — fine dining, clothes, antiques, art, fine crafts, toys, ice cream, wine and beer, fine coffee and pastries, furniture, house wares, beach supplies, post office, banks, and more — all within a few neighboring blocks.

The gate in the backyard opens directly onto Front Street and the Canal, the new Canal Park, public tennis courts, and fishing and boating facilities.

Sleeping and Bathing

The house contains five well appointed bedrooms, four in the main house and one on the second floor of the carriage house. Four of the bedrooms, including the carriage house, have queen beds. The carriagehouse also has a queen sleeper sofa. The attic bedroom contains four twins beds (including a trundle). Please bring your own sheets and towels.

The master bedroom on the second floor at the front of the house has an elegant bath suite attached with ample closet space. A second full bath is off the second floor hallway for use by the other two second floor bedrooms and the attic bedroom. A third full bath is located on the first floor near the rear entrance for guests and carriage house occupants. A private outdoor shower with hot water is located just outside the back door.

A full size washer and dryer and second refrigerator are located in the basement.

Eating

The galley kitchen just off the dining room was recently renovated with modem equipment and fmishes, including a Sub Zero refrigerator/freezer, microwave, and disposal.
